Ayurvedic system of medicine is of great antiquity and dates back to about 5000 years B.C. Ayurveda is a branch of Vedas. The Rigveda and the Atharvveda are replete with information on various aspects of this system of medicine.

And the Vedic Science that deals with ‘Ayu’ is called AYURVEDA -‘Ayushasya Vedah-Ayurveda’
Ayurveda is not only a system of medicine but also represents a way of healthy living. Ayurveda is formed by the combination of two words viz. ‘ayur’ means life and ‘veda’ means knowledge. Thus, ayurveda means the “knowledge of life”. It is holistic in approach.

Ayu is further classified into –
Hitta Ayu (Mental health)
Ahitta Ayu (Abnormal mental health)
Sukha Ayu (Physical health)
Dukha Ayu (Abnormal mental state)
Sukha Ayu :-
Physical and mental fitness, young and strong body, ability to reproduce. One
who is educated, rich and has control over his senses. One who can control his
life & is not controlled by life. Such a life is called SUKHAAYU and opposite to
this is DUKHAAYU.
Hitta Ayu :-
One who has good wishes for everyone, who doesn’t lie, does not keep eye on other’s money, polite in nature, measures Pros and Cons before taking up
any step and cautiously uses Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha(Religion, Money,
Libido, Salvation) respectively.In short, elevated Satvas and lowered
Rajas and Tamas.
Ahitta Ayu :-
Opposite to Hitta Ayu is Ahitta Ayu.
